Frequently Asked Questions

What is OutLapse?
OutLapse is a session countdown tool built for motorsport teams. It gives your pit wall a live countdown to the next on-track session — practice, qualifying, warmup, or race — along with the full weekend schedule, track map, and integrated weather. A read-only viewer link lets your entire crew follow along on their phones, all automatically updated when the schedule changes.
How does the crew access the countdown?
The engineer shares a single viewer link — typically via a team group chat. Each crew member opens the link on their phone, enters their name, and they're registered. That's it. No app download, no account, no password. The link works in any mobile browser and can be installed to the home screen for quick access during the event.
Do crew members need to create an account?
No. Crew members only need to enter their name and email when they first open the viewer link. After that, returning to the link on the same device goes straight to the countdown — no login required. Only the engineer who manages the garage app needs an OutLapse account.
What happens if the schedule changes during the event?
Update the session in the garage app — either import the revised PDF or edit the time directly — and push to cloud. Crew phones will automatically sync the update within minutes. Crew members can also hit the refresh button on their viewer for an instant update. No need to send a new link or notify anyone.
Can I import the schedule from a PDF?
Yes. OutLapse can parse the official event schedule PDF and automatically populate your session list — no manual entry required. You can also filter by keyword to pull only the sessions relevant to your class. Sessions can always be edited manually after import.
What session types does OutLapse support?
Any named session — practice, qualifying, warmup, race, driver change, grid walk, or anything else on the schedule. You name them, OutLapse counts down to them. The tool is built around the full event weekend, not just the race itself.
How many devices can join?
The base plan supports 15 registered viewer devices per team. This covers phones, tablets, and garage display screens. Seats are held per device until the engineer removes them — so the same crew members don't need to re-register each event.
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes — the viewer works in Safari on iOS and can be installed to the home screen. One limitation: vibration alerts (the warn and alert haptic pulses before session start) are not supported on iOS due to Apple's browser restrictions. Vibration works on Android Chrome. All other features — countdown, track map, schedule overlay, team documents — work on both platforms.
Does it work without an internet connection?
The garage app and viewer are Progressive Web Apps — they cache the last loaded event data and will continue displaying the countdown offline. However, schedule updates, weather data, and cloud sync require an internet connection. At most venues with adequate cell coverage this isn't an issue. For areas with poor signal, loading the app before arriving in a low-coverage area ensures the last known schedule is available.
What does the garage display show?
The garage display shows the current session name, start time, and a live DD:HH:MM:SS countdown. It also supports a track map overlay, integrated weather (current conditions, hourly forecast, and 5-day forecast), a full weekend schedule overlay, and a customizable background image. The display can be split into a photo half and an information half, useful for showing sponsor or team branding alongside the countdown.
Can I customize the display?
Yes — background image, session badge color and text, track map position and size, split-screen ratio and layout, warn and alert color thresholds, and more. Everything is configured from the engineer app and pushed to all connected devices at once.
What are the warn and alert thresholds?
The engineer sets two time thresholds — warn and alert — in minutes before session start. When the countdown crosses the warn threshold the display changes to orange; at the alert threshold it changes to red and pulses. On Android devices, crew phones fire vibration at each threshold. Default values are 5 minutes for warn and 1 minute for alert, but both are fully configurable per event.
What's included in the plan?
Everything. One plan covers the full garage engineer app, 15 crew viewer device seats, schedule PDF import, track maps, weather, cloud sync, team documents, and all future updates. There are no feature tiers or add-ons — one subscription, one team, everything included.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. You can cancel your subscription at any time through the billing portal. Access continues until the end of the current billing period — monthly or annual depending on your plan. There are no cancellation fees.
What happens when my subscription expires?
Login to the garage app is blocked once the subscription expires. Your event data is not immediately deleted — if you renew, everything is still there. Crew viewer access also stops working once the account expires.
